Our review
Situated in a smart residential neighbourhood, overlooking St Tropez, Villa Belrose has the best of both worlds – superb views from its terraces and a peaceful location, being positioned in landscaped grounds filled with flowers and birdsong.
With only forty rooms, all with terrace or balcony, they are spread over five floors. Most have sea views; certainly all the better rooms do. The rooms do get smaller as they get higher, but the terraces or balconies are larger. Décor is muted shades of coffee and cream, with touches of mustard in the rooms we saw. Penhaligon toiletries and double sinks are features of the marble bathrooms.
Outdoor space is superb here, with numerous terraces to enjoy the sun or read a book in the shade. If you want to eat, the gourmet restaurant is open for dinner (and breakfast is served here) – and for lunch, one can eat by the pool, as we did, with views over the bay of St Tropez. The hotel has a comprehensive French cheeseboard with 80 options, so cheese aficionados should take note.
The beach is a ten-minute car ride away or the hotel has a complimentary shuttle during the season on request.
Throughout the hotel is tasteful artwork, whether it’s black and white photographs or pen and ink drawings, all carefully chosen to complement their surroundings.
Guests are not formally checked in at a desk, but offered a drink and their details taken while seated; similarly, all guests are sent on their way with a wave when they leave. It’s little touches like this – evident throughout our inspection – that probably account for the high level of repeat bookings.
I loved this hotel and have no hesitation in recommending it.
Rooms
Villa Belrose offers around 40 rooms and suites, all individually styled with a light contemporary Mediterranean aesthetic. Most rooms feature private terraces or balconies, marble bathrooms and sweeping views over the Bay of Saint-Tropez or the surrounding gardens.
Food and Drink
Dining is centred on the panoramic gourmet restaurant Le Belrose, which presents refined Mediterranean cuisine inspired by local Provençal produce under the direction of chef Jimmy Coutel. A relaxed poolside restaurant serves light lunches, while the bar terrace is ideal for aperitifs while overlooking the bay.
Wellness
The hotel features a tranquil wellness area with treatment rooms offering body and facial therapies, alongside a fitness room. Guests can unwind by the heated outdoor swimming pool with views across the surrounding coastline.
