Tourettes, France
A grand villa formerly owned by Sean Connery, Terre Blanche is a luxury all‑suite resort in Provence, featuring championship golf, Michelin‑star dining and a serene spa set within unspoilt countryside

Our review
Terre Blanche is a delightful self-contained golf and spa resort, with superb facilities for golfers and spa goddesses.
The spa was one of the largest in Europe, when it was built in 2007. There are 12 treatment rooms plus two couples rooms. I tried out the large pool, heated to a pleasant temperature with a large outdoor Jacuzzi adjoining. The scent of jasmine and pinewood, with just birdsong and the sound of water to accompany me was most enjoyable.
Later, I had an anti-ageing facial, with products and a system recommended by Brazilian specialist Ivo Pitanguy. Oxygen is pumped into the skin using a small plastic cup. It was not painful but neither was it particularly pleasant. After this treatment, the therapist massaged my head and neck and applied more products to my skin and massaged my face. That part was very soothing.
The changing rooms offer everything one could possibly need and more. A special feature is a family changing room. I’ve never seen this before. Showers have shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Make up areas have mouth wash, deodorant, body lotion, cotton buds, cotton wool, tissues, hair gel, hairdryers and cellophane wrapped combs and brushes. There are also weighing scales for the brave. A machine is on hand to extract excess water from your costume and a bag is supplied to take it home or back to you room. Towels and robes and free slippers to borrow are also on hand. As well as manicure ad pedicure rooms, there is a four-station hair salon.
Public areas are very comfortable with distinctive well-chosen pieces of modern art adding another dimension to what could be quite a cold place as a stand-alone. The concierge is happy to organize an art tour for interested guests.
There is a gourmet restaurant and a more casual one; all food is made from scratch including bread and ice cream and the food operation works on a 24-hour rota.
There is an outdoor infinity pool with lifeguard and 40 cabanas for those who want a little privacy.
Guest rooms are all suites and individually decorated with some having their own terrace and plunge pool or Jacuzzi. There is under floor heating in the bathrooms with separate bath and shower, Espresso machines, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service.
Golf provision is superb with two championship courses, driving range with 64 stations, the ability to analyse your game using state of the art technology, professional coaches, pro shop and everything the modern golfer could possibly need. Paul spent an hour on the driving range and was very impressed with the facilities.
There are other activities in the area if golf is not your bag. There is a running trail onsite that can be with a trainer if preferred. Hiking and climbing is available nearby, row on the lake or try gliding at the local airport.
BA flies to Nice from Gatwick. There is a helicopter transfer that takes ten minutes from Nice or the hotel can arrange a chauffeur service by car.
