Our review

The building was built in 1854 and was originally a couture house. Following a five-year renovation, the hotel opened as the Hyatt in 2002.

It has 153 rooms of which 43 are suites. The hotel has six floors. The French sculptor Roseline Granet has been commissioned to supply numerous bronze figures and artefacts for the hotel and they crop up on the walls in guest rooms, as doorknobs, as lampshades and even as ornaments in the bar.

There is a central outdoor terrace with olive trees and pots of lavender and a bar with signature glass atrium. A separate lounge area sports a fire that burns even in summer.

Rooms are simply but classically furnished in brown, cream and black colourways. They all have tea and coffee making facilities and most have separate bath and shower with Blase Martin toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is a boon. Suites get better as they get bigger, not just larger but with more facilities such as outdoor sitting areas; and the presidential suite has its own spa treatment bed, gym equipment and tuned piano.

The hotel has a 24-hour hairdresser, a spa with four treatment rooms and a 24-hour gym (with coach available from 6am to 11pm). A nail bar is planned for August 2014.

Recently named a palace hotel, and one of only twelve in Paris, the Park Hyatt is a stylish hotel in a convenient location. It’s one I can recommend heartily.
