Paris, France
The five-star palace Hotel Fouquet’s Barriere on the corner of the Champs-Elysees combines Parisian glamour, a world‑famous brasserie and an indulgent destination spa

Our review
The joy of Fouquet’s Barriere is its prime position at the junction of Champs Elysees and Avenue George V and the half a dozen or more eating places and bars within the hotel, thus affording ideal conditions for people watching and celebrity spotting. From wonderful dining to afternoon tea, to a glass of champagne or just an ice cream, it’s all possible here.
Doormen wear striking frock coats in cream edged with black and pork pie type boaters.
The establishment is one of the few ‘palace’ hotels in the city and was the first to gain five star status. It has its history intertwined with the performing arts and cinema in particular – evidenced by the back and white prints on display– so is a popular meeting spot for creative types. Jeanne Moreau, Orson Welles and Maurice Chevalier have all stayed here.
Provision for children is very good, with their own passport, special toiletries, treasure hunt and special menus in the restaurants.
The spa has seven treatment rooms and uses Decorté products. There is a large indoor pool and a good gym with portholes overlooking the swimming pool, hammam and sauna.
There are 100 rooms and suites. Complimentary Wi-Fi is offered in all rooms and most have a hallway. Bathrooms are black marble with mahogany, all have separate bath and shower and the suites have Hermes toiletries as well as better views. Suites also enjoy a dedicated butler service where your every whim (or almost all your whims) is ascertained before your stay and carried out while you are there.
This is a good choice if you want to be centrally situated and like to have several dining and bar options within your hotel. It also has a good spa, gym and pool and welcomes children.
