Paris, France
Stylish five‑star hotel near Place Vendôme, blending contemporary Parisian elegance with refined dining and a serene urban spa

Our review
A relative newcomer on the Paris luxury hotel scene – open since summer 2011 – it has not taken the hotel long to find its feet and in July 2014 it was awarded ‘palace’ status by Atout France, one of only twelve hotels in the city to do so.
Immediately inside the hotel, its signature fan and butterfly motifs offer some brand security, but it has plenty of individual twists and turns to make it feel unique. A case in point is the stylish bar, wrought from a single piece of milk chocolate coloured polished granite, around which the rest of the hotel was built. The central garden area also serves as the al fresco restaurant and bar. ‘Understated elegance’ is a much-bandied around term; it was invented to describe the beautiful Sur Mesure in pure white, buttermilk and putty with delicate motifs on the walls of the same colour as the background. With no other distractions, the focus is very much on the food. By contrast, the restrooms are a riot of colour.
As in all Mandarin Oriental hotels, the spa is a special place with indoor lap pool, seven treatment rooms and a full range of treatments.
With triple glazing, all rooms are quiet. There are 138 rooms, of which 39 are suites. With seven floors, the suites occupy the higher floors. I especially liked the Mandarin terrace rooms (of which there are five) with a big enough outside space for sun loungers and tables. Also recommended is the duplex panoramic suite with large sitting area downstairs and large bedroom upstairs. There is a terrace on both levels. All rooms have large Bang and Olufsen televisions, iPod docks and technology bags with adapters for everything. Bathrooms are fantastic with large Dipytique toiletries, and equipped with not only hairdryers but hair straighteners and clothes steamer. The bath is deep, the shower is without a door but has a seat and it is all really well designed.
This hotel is a gorgeous addition to Paris in a handy location and would suit the most discerning guest.
