Our review

Hotel Le Six is in an interesting area on the Left Bank and in district 6 – hence its name – brimming with decent eateries – an excellent restaurant is just opposite – boutiques and more interesting shops and galleries. It is slightly off the mass tourist trails, yet only two minutes from the metro and three lines. So it’s ten minutes by metro to the Eiffel Tower and 15 minutes to the Champs Elysees.

The hotel is unashamedly modern, bright and fresh. There is a lounge area and a very pleasant breakfast area to the rear. Breakfast is an optional extra but excellent and reasonably priced.

Independently owned by a French family, the hotel has just 41 rooms, four of which are suites.

Staff are young, helpful and always smiling. They don’t appear to have the condescending attitude that some other Parisian hotel workers have.

Rooms are lovely – squeaky clean with wooden floors and light wood furniture, crisp white linen and crammed with extras like L’Occitane toiletries, heated towel rails and coffee machine. Bathrooms are all fully tiled. Wi-Fi is free throughout. There is also an iPod or iPhone docking port.

The rooms get better as one goes higher; not just bigger but with nicer views and are quieter. All rooms have air conditioning; most have a hallway and the better rooms have separate bath and shower.

There is a pleasant lounge area with a few coffee table books and a small on demand spa service, with treatments normally available within the hour. Room service is also offered.

If you prefer modern art to antiques, clean lines over chintz, wooden floors to deep pile carpet, this hotel might suit you to a tee. If you also want a luxurious hotel that is big on personal service and would like to stay on the Left Bank, Hotel le Six would make an excellent choice.
