Rome, Italy
Centrally located, near the Spanish Steps, this 16th century former palace had British poets Keats and Shelley as its early visitors. A hotel since 1845, it is has undergone extensive and tasteful renovations in recent years. It has a well-regarded restaurant, Café Romano.

Our review
This hotel is blessed with a very handy position for sightseeing in Rome, yet it is quietly situated, down a side street.
Our room overlooked the street, but we heard no noise. The bedroom was bright, stylish and light and recently refurbished. The bathroom had a smart black and white tiled floor, stainless steel fittings and Penhaligon toiletries.
The warrens of public rooms were very attractive and comfortable, furnished with antiques, coffee tables and sofas.
The restaurant, Café Romano had an interesting looking dinner menu at a fair price, for Rome, but we did not eat there.
Breakfast is served in the same room. The tables were too close together and getting in and out was tricky, sometimes having to bother our neighbour. That aside, the food and service were fine.
Final words: A reliable hotel in the centre of Rome, ideal for sightseeing.
