Refined urban luxury in SoMa offering spacious rooms, wellness facilities and elegant dining moments from Union Square

Our review
Located in the downtown district near Union Square, the Four Seasons was the first skyscraper built in the city in the 21st century. Extensively refurbished in 2008, with the lobby and lounge area renovated more recently, the reliable Four Seasons still delivers the wow factor.
Rooms are spacious, mostly carpeted in soft grey tones with dark wooden bespoke furniture and bedheads and all having separate bath and shower. Three quarter length windows with window seat make the most of the light. Soothing blues and greens make up the colour palette. Some suites have wooden panelling in rich warm tones. Marble bathrooms have L’Occitane toiletries. All rooms sport attractive displays of fresh flowers and the larger rooms have bowls of fruit.
A feature of the hotel is the free access for all guests to the one of the largest sports club and spa in the city – Equinox Sports Club – as well as having its own fitness suite and indoor pool.
The lobby area on the fifth floor is comfortable and attractive with an open gas fire, wooden flooring and local art displayed. Oliver the barman served a well-mixed cocktail from his marble topped bar. The team here really know how to serve proper drinks. Evidently, gin is the new cool. The MKT restaurant sources three quarters of its products from the local area, making it truly market to table. We had an enjoyable dinner here. Try to get a seat near the window with views from this fifth floor or go for a booth in the middle. It’s modern American-style with sharing plates and individual options, big on steaks and burgers but with plenty of other choice. I had a crisp poached egg with hand made pasta to follow; Paul chose halibut. No room for desserts, as we had starters, but we did finish with a cup of very good coffee.
I noted there is a hotel car for complimentary trips in the downtown area (subject to availability).
This is a centrally placed, comfortable hotel with a very good restaurant. The lobby, restaurant and bar are all on the same level.
