Our review
The original 13th century castle became a luxury hotel in 1961 after numerous additions and improvements. Starwood bought the property in 2007.
Set on a hill and surrounded by lush gardens, the hotel has three golf courses next door.
It is quietly positioned in a residential area. A feature of the hotel is the fabulous sun terrace with fountains and wide reaching views over the gardens below and to the sea. Black slate tables and wrought iron chairs with maroon cushions are arranged in groups, with cream awnings affording shade if needed.
Nearly all the 164 rooms have balconies. They have a hallway with wardrobe and a bathroom leading off. Most of the marble bathrooms have a separate bath and shower, and double sinks.
The hotel has two outdoor pools with sunbeds and one indoor. Four tennis courts are available for guests as well as table tennis.
This hotel is good for golfers and those who want to be away from the crowds.
