Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, USA
Enjoying one of the best locations in Beverly Hills opposite Rodeo Drive, the Beverly Wilshire is regarded as one of Los Angeles’ finest hotels. It has a Michelin-starred restaurant, spa and outdoor pool

Our review
This really is a fabulous hotel, right in celebrity land. The fairy dust seems to rub off, so even for a couple of days you can pretend to be a film star, or a very rich unknown person.
Sit yourself on the little terrace with a cocktail opposite Rodeo Drive and watch life playing itself out as if on a film set. The millionaire Arab playboy parks his Italian sports car ($1.5 million dollars’ worth according to the doorman) right outside the hotel. There is a parking lot at the rear but I don’t suppose the hotel mind having this crowd puller here. Pedestrians stop to take photos on their iPhones. (Sheepishly, I will admit I did too.) A young man is standing next to a lamp post playing on a banjo. We assume he is a busker although he is nicely dressed. After a few minutes, a girl steps out of the hotel, rushes to meet him and they walk arm in arm up across the road, the banjo slung casually over his shoulder.
We were in a lovely double aspect corner Rodeo studio room on the fifth floor that overlooks the famous shopping street. To welcome us to our room were tiny cupcakes arranged on a ‘Rodeo Drive’ board. The colour scheme is light brown relieved with touches of pale green; there is a desk, sofa, flat screen TV, docking station for iPad and free Wi-Fi. There are plenty of lamps for reading and relaxing with a book or laptop. The marble bathroom is long and spacious with a deep tub, separate shower and magnifying mirror.
The hotel milks its association with the 1990 movie Pretty Woman, filmed here. A new nailbar has the film playing on a loop. I can’t think of a nicer place to have your nails done.
This is a busy and popular hotel with a lively bar and casual dining restaurant; booking is often necessary. The Cut gourmet steakhouse is open in the evenings and run by Wolfgang Puck.
The hotel offers a complimentary Rolls Royce for local trips, subject to availability, which we enjoyed taking advantage of a couple of times.
This was a delightful hotel in which to stay. Very American, but in a good way.
