Our review
This well-known hotel has been a feature of the Beverly Hills landscape for 22 years.
As well as free Wi-Fi and complimentary luxury car journeys in the local area, the hotel also has a 24-hour check in arrangement. So long as you contact the hotel with your estimated arrival time, you may check into your hotel as soon as you arrive. Similarly, you may check out when you need to go to the airport, providing you have liaised with reception. This is a real boon for guests arriving very early or for those wanting to check out later. I’m not aware of any other hotel that does this.
We had a Superior room with pale mustard carpet and toning lemon walls with contrasting white architrave. Crisp white pillows had our initials monogrammed on them, a nice personal touch. Behind the headboard and above the bed was a curtain and pelmet in bright contrasting colours of blue and pink. Dark wood furniture comprised bedside tables and a stand for the TV and minibar, made to resemble a chest of drawers. Head level lamps supplied good lighting for reading or working on a laptop in bed. At the bottom of the bed was a padded long stool, handy for unpacking suitcases. Our bed was very comfortable and we heard no noise from anywhere. We were happy with our room but they get even bigger and lovelier, ending up with suites with private terraces and entrances and their own Jacuzzi.
The bathroom was in pale apricot marble. Although there was only one sink, this allowed plenty of space for putting wash bags and makeup on either side. The large, full-size bath filled quickly and had grab handles for getting in and out easily. The shower had a grab rail and a useful shelf for shampoo and shower gel.
One day, we had lunch on the rooftop terrace. It was a lovely sunny day and quite busy. I had one of the best salads I’ve ever had. At first glance, just a simple lettuce salad, but made with the sweetest, crispiest leaves, sliced just-ripe strawberries and a wonderful sharp dressing. In the piles around the plate were mounds of pink sherbet. I also had tofu pad Thai with cashews. Again, it was very good and not a bit greasy.
We didn’t get a chance to try the Belvedere, with its AAA five diamond rating (the best in the region, an accolade it has had for 19 years) but we did get to sample a well-mixed cocktail in the bar.
The hotel has a fantastic spa on the same floor as the roof terrace and pool. The pool is fairly small, but nice enough. There are private cabanas but if you are brave enough, you could sun yourself with the beautiful people.
The hotel prides itself on the standard of its service, which I found to be exemplary.
Overall, a lovely hotel in the centre of Beverly Hills with an excellent 24-hour check in/out policy.
