Our review

Enjoying a superb location right on the lakeside and overlooking a church, the hotel opened in 1999. It has been part of the small Althoff group since 2008. It has 176 rooms, many of which overlook the lake.

The modern, open plan lobby houses the reception area and also holds the restaurants, including the one star Michelin Uberfahrt that is a big draw locally and beyond.

All rooms have balcony and bath and have been recently refurbished.

We had an executive lake view room on the third (top) floor where all the suites are situated. With soft brown carpet and taupe walls, the blonde wood wardrobe contrasted with the burnt orange that offered a splash of colour that complemented the otherwise restful shades. The large bathrooms are a feature of the hotel with striking caramel and coffee highly polished marble and gold-coloured fittings. There is a deep bath, separate toilet stall and twin sinks. Penhaligon toiletries were appreciated.

The bed was very comfortable and the duvets whisper light but toasty warm. There was a window to let in air in addition to a door to the balcony. Wi-Fi was fast and free with no sign-in needed.

We enjoyed a meal in the Italian restaurant. It was all well cooked and served with a smile.

The attractive spa has 10 large spa suites and indoor pool as well as a children’s pool. Outside is another pool for summer use.

The hotel has an arrangement with Audi whereby guests may test drive one of their cars free of charge, just pay for fuel.

The hotel has a lake cabin and beach club a short drive from the hotel for small private parties and gatherings.

Modern hotels can sometimes feel a bit business-like and cold; this hotel is neither of those things. We can wholeheartedly recommend it.
