Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
A temple of modernity, this centrally located hotel is a stylish choice for both business and leisure traveller, with rooftop bar and restaurant and a short walk from the old town

Our review
One of two Sofitel in Luxembourg, this is on a hilltop overlooking the city. The old town is only a fifteen-minute walk away accessed via a bridge over a deep valley.
Sofitel Le Grand Ducal has a signature bright lobby with distinctive sticker artwork. Based on the Luxembourg royal family, a life size poster comprised of stickers has a blank space where the Westie dog has apparently escaped. You can see him playing with his friends in the lobby. We were given a copy of the poster as a souvenir of our trip.
The top (eighth floor) houses the restaurant and bar. Here are far reaching views over the city and old town through floor to ceiling windows. The carpet is a road map of the city and the vertical bar supports are a copy of the philharmonic building to be seen on the hill in the distance. Once a month, this venue hosts a guest DJ for a Friday night knees up. Breakfast is served here too.
We were upgraded to a junior suite on the 7th floor, room 719 sited on the corner with big windows and wonderful city views. It was a gorgeous spacious room with separate toilet, double sinks, deep bath, rainfall shower and Hermes toiletries. A huge welcome fruit basket was much appreciated. With the Sofitel ‘MyBed’ I remembered from Sofitel St James, I knew we were in for a peaceful night’s sleep. A coffee machine, free soft drinks minibar and fast wifi added to our enjoyment.
Breakfast was a deeply satisfying affair as the food and drink was of such high quality. Home made bread and pastries were brought to the table in a basket. Butter was foil wrapped in rolls and tasted divine. As well as the old favourites, fresh fruit choices included lychees, dragon fruit and passion fruit. There was also cheese, cold meats, yoghurt and a delicious rice pudding with caramel. Hot food was available to order, but we didn’t even consider that as we were too replete.
With friendly helpful staff, I can honestly say we had a flawless stay.
