New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
A centrally located historic hotel, oozing character in downtown New Orleans, with the lively Sazerac Bar, well regarded Italian restaurant and full service spa

Our review
This grand historic hotel, taking up a whole block and accessed from two entrances, has been carefully restored post Katrina. It has a beautiful lobby resplendent with crystal chandeliers, potted palms and signature large clock.
We stayed in a King Suite, comprising of two separate rooms, on the fifth floor. The room had no view but since we were not spending much time here, it was not a concern. The room was very quiet apart from an early morning refuse collection, but this only lasted for a few minutes.
There was a wardrobe in the entrance hallway and opposite this, the door to a guest cloakroom. Carpeting appeared to be newly fitted in a brown and caramel colour with swirled design. Overall, the room was a bit ‘beige’ but spotlessly clean.
The sitting area had a flatscreen TV, three-seater sofa, coffee table and desk with lamp near the window. The bedroom had another television placed on a marble topped inlaid wooden bureau. The kingsize bed had a huge dark wooden headboard. It was extremely comfortable. A full-length wall mounted mirror in the room was an added bonus.
Opposite the bathroom was a large fitted wardrobe. The marble bathroom was reasonably small with bath and separate shower. The shower had an aluminium door and one had to put ones hand through the water to operate the controls. There was a magnifying mirror with light for make up and shaving. Although there was only one sink, there was ample room for storing washbags and toiletries. Comprehensive Salvatore Ferrigno toiletries were a pleasing addition.
The air conditioning was quiet and easy to operate.
The Sazerac Bar with attractive murals is obviously a place to be seen in NOLA. We enjoyed well-mixed cocktails here on two occasions. The coffee shop is also very good. They make proper tea here and have delicious morning goods.
The concierge desk is extremely helpful and they organised laundry for us and recommended a boat trip.
The Italian restaurant seemed busy and popular too, but we didn’t get an opportunity to try it nor did we sample the small rooftop pool with sundeck area and downstairs, the fabulous spa.
Overall, this is a wonderful historic hotel, very handily located and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
